VP Consulting OPEB Actuary (Remote, USA)

Job Summary:

Opportunity for the ideal OPEB Consulting Actuary who enjoys both consulting to clients and digging into the numbers. Depending on the level of the candidate, they will either be expected to develop or assist with developing new business. Consultant will provide OPEB consulting services to public and private sector clients. The ideal candidate should be an ASA or FSA with significant experience in OPEB consulting. Candidate should have knowledge of health insurance plans (self-insured and fully insured), understand rating of health plans and knowledge of funding techniques for OPEB. Furthermore, the candidate will have significant knowledge of at least one of the following: GASB 74/75, FASB ASC 715, 958, and FASB ASC 965.

 

Responsibilities:

Presenting actuarial OPEB results to clients in a clear and easy to understand manner in order to help clients solve challenging problems
Analyzing the results and digging into the numbers for accuracy (hands-on)
Accuracy of results without being constrained by unreasonable budgets
Understands employer-sponsored compliance perspectives, e.g., GASB 74/75, FASB ASC 715, 958, and FASB ASC 965 accounting standards as well as Affordable Care Act and other regulatory requirements
Maintain client relationships and manage client contract and invoicing processes
Develop or assist in developing new business
Ability to manage several complex projects and clients, i.e., manage deadlines and develop methodologies that work within deadlines and client-set budgets

 

Supervisory Responsibilities

Training and/or coaching of production personnel
Assist in training hired actuarial analysts

 

Skills/Abilities:

Bachelor’s degree in math, accounting, finance, business administration, or equivalent business experience
3 years of relevant OPEB plan actuarial experience
Must be a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA) or Associate of the Society of Actuaries (ASA)
Experience with retiree medical plan actuarial valuations required (e.g., required accounting reports, liability determination, funding analysis, etc.)
Experience thoroughly reviewing actuarial results in detail and enjoy being involved at multiple levels of the employer-sponsored health care consulting work
Strong oral and written communication skills, i.e., ability to communicate complex actuarial issues clearly and concisely to a non-technical audience
Expertise in Microsoft Office products including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
Expertise in ProVal
Strong attention to detail and the ability to prioritize, manage tasks and meet deadlines in connection with business operations
Team oriented attitude a willingness to help others achieve
Ability to analyze data, determine root cause, and provide and/or develop an appropriate solution for resolution
Advanced customer service skills including appropriate business etiquette in all dealings

 

Salary: Up to $118,000 base salary, based on experience, plus eligibility to participate in company’s bonus program.
